Vocabulary is the base of language.Only after mastering a certain quantity of vocabulary, can students do listening, writing and reading.Traditional teaching method is still popular in our senior high school vocabulary teaching class, which is characterized by teacher explains and students recite. This method has trouble in arousing students' interest and developing students' ability of using language. In order to change this situation, the author tries to combine internet with scaffolding instruction, and apply this method to English classroom teaching.Scaffolding instruction was first proposed by Bruner according to constructivism theory and Vogotsgy's concept of the Zone of Proximal Development. It emphasizes that teachers help students to master learning content and achieve learning goal by providing related scaffolds for them.So teachers are not the absolute leaders of class, but helpers.Student's ability of autonomous learning and cooperative learning can be developed by use of this method. In current society, internet is closely related to everyone's daily life. There are a lot of good resources and patterns on the internet which can be used for teaching.Applying internet-based scaffolding instruction to vocabulary teaching in senior high school,on the one hand, can give full play to the advantages of scaffolding instruction;on the other hand, students' horizon can be broadened, their interest can be aroused, and the purpose of training students' ability of using vocabulary can be achieved. In order to attest the effect of this method, the author makes a four-month long experiment. Two classes in Grade 1 from Nantai High School are chosen as experiment subjects, one is control class and the other is experimental class. These two classes are almost the same at student number and average grade. The experimental data are collected through tests, questionnaires and interviews. After the experiment, all the data are analyzed by use of SPSS 20.0.There are three major researching questions in this experiment:(1)What is the effect of internet-based scaffolding instruction on improving students' English vocabulary learning achievement?(2)What changes have happened about students' learning attitude after using this method?(3)What changes have taken place in the learning methods of students after using this method? The data of this experiment shows that internet-based scaffolding instruction has significant effect on high school students' English vocabulary learning. After using this teaching method, the test score of experimental class improves and students are more interested in learning English vocabulary than before. Most students can learn by themselves before and after class, the passive learning situation has been improved to some extent.Hence one can see this method is feasible. At last, the author sums up some experiences and shortcomings of this experiment, hoping that it can be a reference for the future study of English vocabulary teaching in senior high school.
