English writing can reflect students' comprehensive abilities,which can reflect the student's ability of using language and show their ability of language expression.As the internationalization of the nation becomes deeper and deeper,the country increasingly needs real talents who are able to use English fluently to express their ideas,concepts and objectives.So the curriculum proposes higher requirement for the students' English writing ability so as to achieve thepurpose of cultivating such talents in this way.In recent years,the English writing level of students is not optimistic in middle school.Evaluation methods of composition are simple and traditional and the effect of evaluation is not obvious.So it is urgent to make further studies on English writing teaching in middle school.The author selects 110 students from two grade eight classes in Zhengzhou No.52 middle school as research objectives.And Class 1 with 56 students is as control class and uses the traditional evaluationin the process of writing assessment.Meanwhile,Class 2 with 56 students is as the experimental classadopting the combination mode of self-assessment and peer-assessment for the writing evaluation.The study lasts four months and the author uses the research instruments,for instance,questionnaires,interviews and tests in order to answer the following three questions:1)What is the students' attitude towards the combination mode of self-assessment and peerassessment ?2)What are the existing problems during the process of self-assessment and peer-assessment ?3)What are the effects of self-assessment and peer-assessment on students' English writing ability?The author findsout the following results through analyzing various kinds of data: There is a significant differencein the students' attitude towards the combination mode of self-assessment and peer-assessment before and after the experiment.Few students know about the combination mode at the beginning of the experiment,while most participants have a positive attitude to this pattern and are willing to join the activity.Numerous students will like to attend the evaluation activity.In the process of assessment,there are some problems existing.For example,the higher level students do not believe that their peers can find out the mistakes and errors in their writings.The lower level students hold a negative attitude to the whole process.They do not think that they have a ability to make the revision.Through the training and practice of the assessment,the students could clearly know the standard of a good composition and pay attention to these aspects consciously.What's more,they have improved their writing ability and meanwhile they have enhanced their comprehensive ability.The author considers that it is very necessary to introduce the combination mode of self-assessment and peer-assessment in the teaching of English writing in middle school according to this study and is looking forward tomore researches about this mode.
