Translation is not only one of the most important skills, but also a way to learn foreign language. However, translation is often neglected in senior high school English teaching. The emergence of the Output Hypothesis theory and the Error Analysis(EA)theory are of great significance, which provides guidance for foreign language teaching, and also enriches achievements of the research. The purpose of the EA is to describe various types of error that learners make in the process of second language acquisition, and then analyze the causes of errors. The EA theory includes five steps: collection of samples, identification of errors, description of errors, explanation of errors and evaluating errors. Many researches on EA focuses on university students as the subjects, while very few studies have been carried out on senior high school students. Therefore,on the basis of the Output Hypothesis theory and the EA theory, the author investigated Chinese-English(C-E)translation errors committed by 70 Grade one students from No.8 Senior High School in Yining, analyzed the causes of errors and gave some teaching implications. This thesis tried to answer the following research questions:1.What error types do Grade one of senior high school students tend to make in Chinese-English translation practice?2.What is the frequency of each error type? The research results indicated that the main types of error in C-E translation as the follows: spelling errors, grammatical errors, literal translation and redundant expression.Among the four types, the frequency of the spelling errors was 11.04%,while the proportion of the grammatical errors was 77.38%.The frequency of the literal translation was 4.59%,while the proportion of the redundant expression was 6.99%.Additionally,the author analyzed the causes of errors and the causes were the following: Students' translation ability was weak, the influence of linguistic differences between English and Chinese, the different culture and the different thinking modes between the West countries and Chinese.Through analyzing students' translation errors and the results of the interview, the research puts forward the following suggestions for reference: cultivating students' translation ability, selecting translation practice reasonably, strengthening the contrastive teaching between English and Chinese, focusing on cross cultural teaching and contrasting the differences between the West countries and Chinese in thinking modes.
