As is known to everyone,Map,the second language of Geography,has naturally become an essential tool in learning Geography.The map ability has also been recognized as the core competence in cultivating the attainments of the students.However,the grasp of map ability of students at present was less than satisfactory.Although there are some fundamental researches on the cultivation of map ability throughout the domestic and foreign studies,the number of the research based on the level of map ability of students is small.In the paper,the author analyzes the relations among the abilities of reading graph,analyzing graph,drawing graph and applying graph,and also analyzes the questionnaire surveys and interviews in the light of abilities of different levels.Then,the author does some questionnaire surveys of map ability for the students in DSQ high school and some interviews for the geography teachers in the above-mentioned school.After finishing these surveys and interviews,the author comes to recognize that there is a problem in different levels of the map ability.The author puts forward the corresponding training strategies of reading graph ability,analyzing graph ability,drawing graph ability and applying graph ability which are based on an amount of materials and teaching experience according to the problem existing in the map ability.At last,the writer proposes the teaching cases which are related to the training of map ability and the special reviewing classes of map ability given in the new lessons.This paper provides not only a little contribution to the study on the map ability by different levels,but also teaching references to the training of map ability of high school geography teachers.This paper contains the following aspects:The first chapter is an introduction that introduces the meaning of this article as well as the research situation at home and abroad and put forward the method and route of this research.The second chapter defines the concepts of the map and the map ability,sketches such theoretical viewpoints that have a guide meaning as curriculum and Teaching Methodology,Learning theory of information processing and Constructive Learning Theory.The third chapter is an investigation on map ability of |DSQ High School students.The teacher did a survey of the students and teachers with the method of questionnaire survey and interviewing respectively.Understanding the current state of map ability of DSQ High School students lay a foundation of strategy in the next chapter.The fourth chapter is presents the training strategy at different levels of the map ability,which is based on the results of the third chapter.The fifth chapter introduces the two teaching examples of the training of map ability that the author has developed combining with the teaching experience and shows teaching process of the training of the map ability from new course and recitation.The sixth chapter is the conclusion of this paper.It contains the summary and shortcomings of the study.
