As an essential English skill, English writing means a lot to senior high school students. It is an important standard to measure students' integrated English skills and the teaching effects of English courses. Krashen's Monitor Theory has a wide effect on foreign language learning since the theory came into being,Based on Krashen's Monitor Theory, the thesis is to explore how to apply the monitor hypothesis, input hypothesis and affective filter hypothesis in the theory to the English writing lesson design so as to improve the students'English writing proficiency with the help of two questionnaires and a teaching experiment which lasted half a year.The major research questions are: (1)How can teachers make use of the input hypothesis to guide the English writing teaching in senior high school? (2)How can teachers apply the monitor hypothesis to improve their English writing teaching? (3)How can teachers employ the affective filter hypothesis to improve their English writing teaching?The subjects of the research are 100 students from Class 9 and 10, Grade 1 in Yunyang Senior High School. Class 9 is the Experiment Group in which the students receive the new writing teaching methods guided by Krashen's Monitor Theory. While Class 10 is the Control Group in which the students receive the traditional writing teaching methods. Finally, Excel is used to compare and analyze the grades of the two groups before and after the experiment as well as the students' use of vocabulary,grammar and sentence structures in the compositions. In addition, the research has designed questionnaires, which are aimed to explore whether Krashen's Monitor Theory is effective. In conclusion, the experiment proves that, by applying Krashen's theory to writing teaching, students' writing proficiency can be evidently improved. Some feasible writing teaching strategies are also provided.
