China is a united country with multiple ethnic groups.There are twofold attributes in education of ethnic areas,including university and nationality.In specific,the educational system in ethnic areas is required to not only function the same way as general education with the consideration of national policies,but also focus on the multiplicity,uniqueness of ethnic cultures and people’s educational background in those areas.The vocational education,as one important component of national education,should also take the above responsibilities.As a result,vocational education in ethnic areas contains twofold attributes(i.e.,nationality and vocational characters),and possesses special cultural duty.This study is based on the educational theory of multi-cultural integration,the theory of knowing and doing,‘the combination of teaching and doing’ from Xingzhi,Tao,and ‘learning from doing’ from Dewey.It formulated one evaluation system in which national techniques are integrated into modern vocational education,on the basis of three dimensions including basic guarantees,the development of quality and educational achievements.The purpose of this system is to solve the problems of how and in what way national techniques are integrated into modern vocational education.It further examines whether national techniques are really integrated into vocational education using individual surveys.The focus group of this research is S School in Yunnan Province,which is listed as ‘Demonstration Base of Nationwide Vocational Education in Ethnic areas’ and ‘Public Training Centre for the Design and Manufacturing of the Ethnic Craftworks in National Vocational Education’.The study utilizes fieldworks and surveys as the research method to examine the specific situations and effects of the integration between ethnic techniques and vocational education.It attempts to find the current problems and corresponding reasons in the integrated process of ethnic techniques to vocational education,so that those problems during this process can be solved in targeted ways,and the effective ways of that integrated process are explored.Therefore,it can be expected that the inheritance and development of traditional culture and ethnic techniques are promoted.As ethnic techniques are integrated into S School in Yunnan Province,several problems confronting this school,including the weak professional teaching team in ethnic techniques,the incomplete curriculum,the lagged-behind teaching approach and the lack of the professional instructions,because of the ignorance on teaching approach,the lack of financial supports on ethnic techniques,the influence of social standards and the distinctive features of ethnic techniques as well as the limitation of the small amount of demand in ethnic technique market.as a result,the integration effects of ethnic techniques have been seriously affected in S School in Yunnan Province.Therefore,if we want to solve those problems in the integrated process of S School in Yunnan Province,to improve the effects of that integration,to achieve the purpose of better integration between ethnic techniques and vocational education in ethnic areas,and to break the bottleneck of the development in vocational education in ethnic areas,the effective ways for the development in the integration of ethnic techniques to vocational education are required to be explored from two levels,including S School in Yunnan Province and vocational education in ethnic areas.In order for that integrated process to be better achieved,the adjustments from the school itself are needed.The school could enhance its promotion in society,enrich the teaching team in ethnic techniques,improve students’ interests in ethnic techniques and individualize teaching in that school.Teachers are required to improve their own professionalism,to multiply their teaching approach in class,to change their teaching patterns and to enhance students’ practical skills.Meanwhile,the cooperative projects among ethnic areas need to be enhanced with the efforts at the level of vocational education in ethnic areas.The following methods are also required to be applied: the learning and communication among provincial vocational schools nationwide are needed,as well as the improvement of teaching quality in vocational education,the additional support in finance,and the implement of related policies in the support for ethnic technique majors.The government could also support the enterprises in the field of ethnic techniques,extend the market demand and add professional instructions,so that the cooperation between schools and enterprises could become seamless with the continual development in ethnic techniques.The social recognition of ethnic techniques in families and society also needs to be enhanced,which could stimulate the development of majors in ethnic techniques from vocational education in a deeper and better direction.Therefore,the effective integration of ethnic techniques to modern vocational education could be achieved,using the above methods.
