With the development of new curriculum reform,to improve the students' critical thinking ability is becoming an important teaching objective of English reading teaching.In recent years,the majority of researchers are concerned about a systematic review of the entire set of text books,or doing assessment from different perspectives,such as the grammar,the vocabulary and the passage structure.Although there have been many studies on the reading section of English textbooks,the relevant papers and thesis that combine critical thinking and teaching materials are yet to be enriched.Therefore,this study intends to analyze and evaluate the reading materials from the reading section of the textbooks from topics and genres by using critical thinking as a theoretical basis.It aims to find out whether the reading materials in reading section are suitable for teachers to carry out critical reading teaching;whether the reading activities are conducive to improve students' critical reading ability and make the appropriate recommendations.The results of this study found that NSE textbook1 to textbook5 basically answer the three questions raised in this study.NSE textbooks can provide reading materials and reading activities which are suitable for teachers to carry out critical reading teaching.However,the series of NSE textbook also have some flaws.Based on the research results,this thesis puts forward the corresponding suggestions for teachers,students and the editors in order to achieve the purpose of maximizing the use of teaching materials.
