English writing teaching has always been a weak point of English teaching.Not only are the students afraid of writing compositions,but also most teachers are reluctant to teach writings.The common phenomenon reflects the deficiency of traditional method of teaching writings,which calls for a well-established writing teaching theory to guide the teachers.This paper systematically discusses the process writing approach,and makes a comparison and analysis between the process writing approach and the traditional writing approach.The aim of the study was to assess the impact of process writing to English language teaching on the interest and writing level of the participants.The theories on which the thesis is based on are: communicative theory,Cognitive process theory of writing,social interaction theory,etc.The research aims to remove or decrease the fear of students to English writing through introducing process writing teaching and intends to testify the two hypotheses: 1.Process writing approach can improve junior middle school students' writing interest.2.Process writing approach can improve junior middle school students' writing level.In order to do this research,the researcher carried out an experiment of half year in English writing teaching for eighth-grade students.Two classes the researcher taught were chosen as the experimental class and the controlled class respectively.Through the analysis of data obtained from 80 students,42(24 male and 18 female)in the experimental class and 38 students(28 male and 10 female)in the control class,the researcher designed the questionnaire on the basis of the Writing Apprehension Test developed by Daly and Miller,the findings of the study were consistent with the findings of previous researchers.A statistical analyses of the data revealed that process writing approach provide more beneficial outcomes to learners than the traditional approach.The major findings of the experiment indicate that in junior middle school,the process writing approach can be used to stimulate the students' interest in English writing and perfect the English writing proficiency of students.
