The learning and grasp of English grammar is one of the most basic skills,which is also the key factor for students to get high scores.Although English teaching has been paid a great attention by all professors in the society,English teacher should still regard English grammar seriously.As the second language for Chinese senior students,they would be influenced by the native language more or less during their English learning process.Some positive influences will stimulate the students’ learning initiatives and improve students’ English performance(this kind of positive influence also called positive transfer);on the contrary,negative influence will decrease students’ learning initiative and affect students’ English performance(this kind of negative influence also called negative transfer).There is no doubt that in the process of English learning,most Chinese senior students will be influenced by the negative transfer of Chinese.More significantly,Chinese native transfer has become one of the major obstacles for Chinese senior high students to improve their English performance.Throughout the literatures and books both in domestic field and foreign countries,it is easy to find that a great number of scholars had carried comprehensive analysis and profound research,which not only improved the understanding toward language transfer,but also demonstrated that it was practical and effective to focus on the cultivation of language transfer,which could also improve students’ English performance.Therefore,after reading so many literatures and books,I would like to choose language transfer as my theoretical foundation to testy the fact: in the process of English teaching,especially in grammar teaching,paying much attention on the cultivation of students’ language transfer(positive transfer)plays a very significant and helpful role on students’ learning initiatives and effectiveness.The paper first reviews the historical development of language transfer theory including the development process,current situation as well as the enlightenment on foreign language teaching of Contrastive Analysis,Error Analysis as and Interlanguage.Besides,this paper also expounds the literature review at home and abroad comprehensively and systematically.This paper takes the 90 students from Class 15 andClass 16 of Senior Two at Harbin No.3 Middle School as the research subjects.Class 15 is the control class,which meant that English teacher would choose the normal teaching pattern.Class 16 is the experimental class,which means that English teacher would cultivate students’ language transfer awareness on purpose.This experiment process adopts the paper test,questionnaires and SPSS(social survey software)to collect and analyze data.Through the final analysis of experimental data,we could find that students from experimental class totally has high scores,in addition to that,they also have a larger improvement.However,the students from control class totally have unconspicuous improvement in terms of English performance.The innovation of this thesis is to apply the language transfer theory into English grammar teaching in senior high.Through the analysis of the experimental data,we could come to a conclusion: during the process of English learning,if English teacher cultivates students’ language transfer awareness,it could help students to improve the grades of English grammar performance,stimulate students’ learning initiatives and effectiveness.Hoping that this paper I could do my small part to the development of English teaching through my research and give some enlightenments for future deeper research and investigation.
