Remote sharing is a kind of application sharing technology with remote control, which allows a local computer to connect a remote computer through a variety of network, and access the remote files and application programs. At the same time, the remote computer can respond to the control events from the local mouse and keyboard, to realize the remote control. Remote sharing can promote people's interactivity in various aspects of our work and life, such as distance education and telemedicine and so on. In addition, through remote sharing, we can set up the working environment, or backup application data on a remote computer, thus reduce the cost of computer's usage and maintenance.Virtual network computing(VNC) is an implementation technique of remote sharing, which uses the client/server mode. It can be used to enable multiple users to watch and control the remote server desktop environment in real-time through the Internet. But for the reason of its small capacity of VNC users and unreasonable network transmission mode, and especially the obvious display delay caused by the large amount of data transmission, the VNC technology should be improved accordingly in order to satisfy different business requirements in the practical application.VNC, a solution and test comparison to improve the real-time of remote sharing was implemented. One of the main reasons what lead to the delay of VNC is the large amount of multimedia data to be transmitted, and another reason is due to the narrow network bandwidth and unreasonable transmission algorithm. In this thesis, JPEG2000 image encoding technology was used for multimedia image compression whit parallel processing applied to the time-consuming part of the encoding algorithm to improve the efficiency of image compression. With the layered characteristics of JPEG2000 code stream, a progressive transmission scheme of image data according to the quality layers was implemented in this thesis, which can reduce the display delay of remote sharing. Finally, the optimization experiments using Visual Studio 2008 are performed, which indicated the improved efficiency on static image compression algorithm of parallel processing, and the optimization scheme in the practical application of VNC system. The results show that the optimization scheme can improve the real-time performance of VNC system.
