With the increasing demand for printing in the commercial office, the printing market has developed rapidly. In today’s global field of printing, laser printing and imaging mode is mainly monopolized by two core technologies, LED printing and ordinary laser printing.LED printing as a new dot matrix printing technology with high print speed, high-quality print image effect, long life, energy saving, environmental protection and other advantages is quickly favored by the users.Since the LED print head born, it has developed for more than 30 years, the resolution also increases from the intial 240 dpi to the current 2400 dpi. The LED print head is more and more meticulous in the manufacture technology, and its volume has also been reduced, but its print quality is constantly improving. As the core component of the LED printer, LED print head is responsible for receiving the command of the master controller and completing the print job, so the research of LED print head is very important. The purpose of this research is to implement the design of the LED print head driver, and ultimately used in the LED printer project.This article introduces the development of LED printer and its advantages and disadvantages, describes the working principle of LED printer and imaging principle of LED print head. The internal structure of the print head and SPI bus is explained in detail. A depth analysis is done on five operating modes of print head, such as reading the luminous flux compensation data,print head correction, data printing, print head sleep and print head wake-up, and on this basis, it proposes the design of each module of the print head driver, which includs print head engine LPH_Engine, high-speed data buffer LPH_FIFO, paper ready trigger Paper_RDY Trigger and register set Register. Finally the software design of the print head driver for different resolution are realized. For the original head print driver, this thesis also design a corresponding test system to test it, and proposes some solutions to the problems in the testing process, optimize the print head module.In the end, the thesis providers a summary and outlook on the design of the print head driver. The print head driver has been applied to the LED printer project. Actual test results show that the design of the LED print head driver meets the design requirements.
