In view of the shortwave antenna, this paper introduces the methods of the broadband antenna miniaturization and reconfigurable design. In general there are four methods for example, increasing the radius of antenna elements, the antenna loading, using the broadband matching network and designing the antenna as reconfigurable architecture. The antenna loading technique includes top loading, floating-plate overlaying, lumped loading and distributed resistive loading. The broadband matching network is used widely in the designing of HF antenna. This paper introduces three kinds of networks, including lossless network, lossy network, active network. Reconfigurable antennas consist of polarization reconfigurable antennas, pattern reconfigurable antennas and frequency reconfigurable antennas. Then reconfigurable HF antenna is usually frequency reconfigurable ones. The goal of this paper is to design a kind of antenna covering the frequency band from 1.6 MHz to 30 MHz, whose height is less than 10 m and whose VSWR is less than 2.5 over the whole frequency band with the gain larger than 0d Bi at the frequency between 2 MHz to 30 MHz. And the radiation pattern can't split. This paper design a reconfigurable antenna which adopts both ways of lumped-loading and adjustable inductance loading. In the end we got two kinds of antennas meeting the predetermined requirements. In addition, a 3.6 meters high reconfigurable single-whip antenna was measured with the matching network designed and debugged. It is described what should be paid much attention to in the experiment.
