In recent years, multimedia services mainly represented by PTT (Push To Talk) service have been widely applied in professional Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). These services put forward relatively high requirements on Quality of Service (QoS). In other words, they require professional Wireless Mesh Network to have a rather strong capability of providing QoS. Under such condition, the present paper, using Wireless Mesh Network as the backbone network, studies the routing technology in Wireless Mesh Network with the purpose to guarantee the QoS of PTT service and other multimedia services. On the basis of comprehensive analyses of relevant factors, including Wireless Mesh Network's structure and characteristics, different requirements on QoS put forward by different multimedia services as well as the existing routing protocols of Ad hoc network and their advantages and disadvantages, the paper chooses to study the geographic routing protocol which suits the background of this research. A geographic routing protocol based on queue scheduling called SPQS (A Stateless Protocol Based on Queue Scheduling) is proposed in the paper with a reference to the SPEED routing protocol. SPQS selects geographic information and link delay as routing metric and forwards packets in a greedy way, which assures the selected path has less transmission delay and hop counts. Meanwhile, a new queue scheduling mechanism called DVMS (Dynamic Velocity Monitoring Schedule) is also introduced in the protocol to improve the performance of network transmission delay and packet loss ratio for PTT service and other delay-sensitive services, in which the packets are categorized according to their urgency and priorities. The simulation results show that compared with other relevant routing protocols, the SPQS protocol can better guarantee the quality of service of PTT service and other delay-sensitive services in Wireless Mesh Network. Hence, the SPQS protocol contains practical value and deserves further research.
