A Research On The Role Ethics Of University Librarians

With the development of time and higher education reform, the course of library in uni versities is improving rapidly. At the same time, universities put forward a new requi rement on the role of librarian. Currently, the majority of librarians in universities and colleges could perform their duties, abide by rules and fulfill their m oral principles. However, there are many librarians w ho couldn’t properly perform their duties or guarantee that they can fu lfill their obligations, which may not only impede the development of library of higher education,but also might have a negative impact on the cultivation of librarians’qualities and personal traits. Those problem s need to be taken into considerati on. Therefore, depending on this thesis, it is signi ficant to carry out investigations to test m orality and quality of librarians form the perspective of ethnics. Those c ould not onl y enhance the sm ooth development of library of higher education, but also have a good influence on the cognizance of the role that librarians played and the improvement of librarians’ responsibilities and moralities.This thesis mainly consists off our parties. The first part indica ted the b asis of selected topic, the domestic an d international trends of research, the ideas and met hods of research and the innovation of research. The second part explai ned the identity of the role ethic s of university librarians as well as its general overv iew. It describe d that the role ethics of university librarians is a kind of ethics be havior patterns that is com posed of the corresponding rights and res ponsibilities, expectation of role et hics and moral principles of ide ntity and status of a university librarian who play in the role. The third part of the th esis is related to the analysis and conclusion of moral deficiency in the role whic h university librarians played in C hina. And the most obvious and ex isting phenomena generally can be concluded that universit y librarians couldn’t have a clear concept of their role, be indif ferent to readers, posses a weak s ense of r es ponsibility and provide a unqualified se rvice attitude. The main reas on is that read ers couldn’t reach a qualified moral standar d and libr ary members’deficiency in qua lities and cognition ability. In additio n, there is still existing some objective reasons,which include the i nfluence of social environm ent and the shortage of library m anagem ent. The last part consists of the equality, humanism, ethical princip les that university 1 ibrarians should insist, depending on the deficie ncies that has been stated. This th esis mainly of fered some suggesti ons and advices about the construe tion a m ore reasonable role ethni cs of university librarian from three p erspectives, including co mpleti ng ethnics system, enhancing m oral environment as well as strength ening the self-adaptation.
