A Framing Analysis Of Media Micro-blog In Reversal News Reporting

Providing decisive information and supervising social environment are always the vocation of the media. Recently, however, the common occurrence of the reversal news reporting and the declining the media credibility has been a common concern of the media industry and the public.Based on framing theory, this paper applies case study and content analysis to make a quantitative and qualitative study on the media’s micro-blog on “Mo Xiang Xiang”, in terms of their information sources, frame use, text form and vocabulary use. This study found that there is a consistency in frame use, text form and vocabulary use in each of the three phases of the event. While the frames used by different media are quite different during the whole event. The responsibility frame is the dominant frame in phrase one. And the consequence frame is the dominant one in phrase two. While the the definition frame is the main frame in phrase three.Based on the comparison study of the media’s text form, attitudes, vocabulary use in each phrase, this study promotes four factors which influence the choice of media frame:ideology, news value, economic benefit and frame of the first report. Besides, three main reasons of reversal news reporting has been found: single source of the information and lacking of instant definition and verification, blind pursuit of hot issues and abuse of labeling, conflict of interets of different communities and stigmatization. For the above reasons, this paper finally gives some suggestions.
