The access technology of diverse types of wireless network is different in traditional wireless networks. So it is very difficult to use comprehensive strengths of all kinds of network. We studied the software defined network, in order to deliver the control logic to the controller in the network, through the decouple of the control plane and the data plane. Under the circumstances, the difference of the wireless network equipments has been shielded and then making the comprehensive utilization of different network resources become possible. The main content is as follows:Firstly, we proposed a kind of OpenFlow-based wireless network architecture for load balancing by combining the software defined network and the wireless network, so that we can manage the wireless access of the terminal. This design includes a kind of wireless switches supported OpenFlow and a load balance controller, and they communicate with one another through OpenFlow protocol. The wireless terminal will send its demand information by sending packets through the wireless switch to the controller. The demand information is divided into two kinds, respectively described using the utility function. The controller can achieve real-time network information, and the load balancing module in the controller will make decisions to choose appropriate wireless access network for wireless terminals.Secondly, in view of the designed OpenFlow-based wireless network architecture for load balancing. We develop a wireless network switch system supporting OpenFlow on OpenWRT system. The system is run on x86 hardware development board, building a wireless network switch. Through software implementation for the controller, the load balancing module can use a variety of load balancing algorithm flexibly. After the realizing of wireless network switches and load balance controller, the wireless network platform is constructed out. Finally we test the performance of the network platform to verify the validity and usability.
