ZigBee is a standard protocol suite for low rate wireless personal area networks(LR-WPANs)and has been widely utilized in various fields.Since both ZigBee and WLAN(802.11b/g)operate in the 2.4GHz unlicensed industrial scientific medical(ISM)frequency band, mutual interference is likely to exist and cause significant performance degradation when devices are collocated in the same environment. The main goal of this paper is to evaluate the effect of interference on the performance of WLAN to the ZigBee systems. Two different analytic models for interference between WLAN and ZigBee are introduced. The packet error rate(PER),transmission delay, throughput and Network topology are changed because ofthe interference. In this paper,ZigBee’s packet loss rate is related to WLAN’s transmit power, working channel and distance are experimentally verified.A receive strength signal indicator(RSSI)can be used to determine the level ofinterference, which is useful for future research.
