It is a time-consuming and hard task to inspect the insulator in the high voltage transmission line in the field by hand.With the rise of UAV technology in recent years,by combining with the computer image processing technology,detecting the fault of transmission line using the UAV aerial image has become the trend of electric power development.Based on the technology of computer image processing and pattern recognition,the research designed an image processing algorithm to detect the defect of insulator with characteristics of the transmission line.This paper developed a defect detection system of insulator by using C# programming combined with EmguCV.The main work includes the following points.First,according to the imaging characteristics of UAV aerial image,this paper designed a image preprocessing using image processing technology.This image preprocessing includes changing color image into gray image,filtering and denoising.Through practical analysis,the preprocessing worked well,and laid the foundation for the next step of image segmentation and image positioning.Secondly,this paper analyzed several classical image segmentation algorithms,and on the basis of these algorithms we studied the segmentation algorithm based on non-down sampling Contourlet(NSCT)and kernel function based FCM(KFCM).The segmentation effect of this algorithm is better than other algorithms by experimental comparison.Third,we designed a method of identifying the location and defect of the insulator.The recognition and location algorithm proposed two steps location method to solve the problem of inaccurate target location in complex background which from other algorithms.The experimental results show that the algorithm is effective,and it has the advantages of high positioning accuracy and good stability.According the shape features of explosive insulator,we designed a detection method by calculating the Euclidean distance of adjacent insulators.For insulator contamination detection,we used the method of calculating the gray variation to detect the dirty insulators.The experiments show that the two kinds of defect detection methods are high accuracy and their fault tolerance is better than the others.Finally,we designed the defect detection system of insulator based on C# and EmguCV,the system uses MySQL to manage the data.This system integrates the algorithms of this paper,which can detect the defect of insulator.The experimental results show that the system has good stability and accuracy.
