With the development of economic globalization and information technology, logistics information industry is rising all over the world. The internationalization of competition, the diversification of demand, the integration of the market make the development of modern logistics into a advanced stage.Efficient and fast logistics distribution system is very important to the development of logistics. The reason why we apply GIS in logistics analysis is that the GIS has powerful geographic data which can improve the logistics analysis technology.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic theory of logistics information system and GIS,and then summarizes the main applications of GIS in logistics system, including the location of logistics center based on GIS,the problem of vehicle routing planning, and discusses the design of GIS based system.Through the application of GIS in logistics field, the position of vehicle and other moving targets can be monitored in real time.Real-time scheduling instruction is issued according to the road traffic conditions. The distribution route is determined by Dijkstra’s analysis function and GIS algorithm. The establishment of distribution center location is influenced by external environmental factors.Usually We apply the superposition of GIS and buffer analysis to establish the core optimal location of distribution center. The thesis is based on the structure of the system, and the system is designed by using the system stratification.Through the Java platform, the logistics information system based on GIS is designed, which is based on the data and theory of practical significance. The basic data of the system, organization authority, job order, scheduling, distribution and other management functions are realized. It is proved that the application of GIS in logistics field is feasible.
