Virtual assembly is the typical application of the virtual reality technology in industry,and in recent years the researching at virtual assembly technology by institutions at home and abroad has made significant results and been applied to actual production and life.As a result,the virtual assembly technology has been developing very fast to meet the market needs,which include space,human education,industrial manufacturing,information management,etc.In recent years,with the rapid growth of the global children’s electrocar market demand,the innovative design work of the children’s electrocar industry is also growing rapidly day by day.On this background,the virtual assembly technologies in the application of children’s electrocars have been reviewed in this study to develop a virtual assembly system using Virtools software.The critical technologies within the system implementation were also investigated.Firstly,this paper introduced definition and characteristics of virtual assembly,compared and analyzed typical virtual reality software in detail.Virtools 5.0 software was chosen for virtual environment development platform.In this study,two models(hierarchical and relational)were analyzed for their advantages and disadvantages.This was to benchmark the assembly technology for the assembly system of children’s electrocarn Based on the above investigation,a mixed model was built to highly present the assembly information for virtual children’s electrocar.Unified and effective algorithms of assembly sequence planning and assembly path optimization were suggested for a feature model of children’s electrocar parts.In terms of the assembly sequence planning algorithm,the displacement increment method and fixed time interval sampling method were used so as to record the key positions to predict the movement paths of the electrocar parts.Those sampling points were able to assist and support path planning for the parts assembly.The assembly constraints and the assembly interference checking in the virtual children’s electrocar system were investigated in detail.Considering the different constraint information when assembling the parts,assembly constraints algorithm was proposed on the freedom degree of the motion.Combing the practical assembly working experiences and the practical constraints,two types of the position change were displayed based on free stand and constrain status,respectively.The function of system interference checking was achieved by using collision detection method from spherical bounding box.At last,we introduced the children’s electrocar virtual assembly system implementation in Virtools 5.0 and Visual Studio 2012 platform.The system function has been evaluated to prove the reliability and feasibility of the proposed critical technologies within a specific assembly model for children’s electrocar.
