The Research On 3D Leaf Carving Construction Based On Single Leaf Carving Image

Abstract/Summary:
Leaf carving is one of traditional Chinese folk arts.As the time goes by,the traditional handmade skills are slowly lost,fewer and fewer people know about this art.So,with the help of computer technology,we hope to construct a 3D leaf carving model which is a new artistic form of leaf carving from single leaf carving image.Based on the former research methods,we make appropriate improvements on these methods for constructing our own 3D leaf carving model.The contents of this thesis are divided into three parts:distance field based method,gradient domain based method and edge line based method.There are three steps in distance field based method.Firstly,we divide the image into three parts.The slender petiole is extracted with interactive operation.Secondly,we construct initial 3D model through shape from shading method in image distance field,and use sigmoid function to refine its height.Then we adopt gray scale morphology method to extract leaf vein for feature details constructing,and do a mesh smoothing operation.Finally,through a method similar to fluid diffusion,we obtain the skeleton points in narrow parts and do a micro adjustment in these parts.The final model is generated after inserting points to repair breaking parts.The processes of gradient domain based method are basically same as the distance field based method.The main difference between them is the intermediate process.In this method,we use the attenuation function and the segmentation function to deal with gradient image.The 3D model is constructed through shape from gradient method.In edge line based method.First,we define various types of points for mesh deformation and do a preprocessing on these points to reduce the number of tiny holes and local depressions in the 3D model.Then,the intaglio model is constructed by the mesh deformation algorithm.Finally,after the reconstruction of triangular element and hollow-out operation,we get the 3D leaf carving model.Finally,by comparing with 3D leaf carving models which are constructed by some other related methods,the result shows that our methods can generate good 3D leaf carving models.Through the exhibition of different 3D leaf carving models,the result shows the effectiveness of the methods described in this thesis.The 3D leaf carving model which has the leaf vein details is accord with actual leaf carving,and the height of model surface is basically the same.
