A Study On Comparing The Reporting Frame Construction Of The Newspaper With Weibo In A Case Of Shandong Vaccine Event

With the development of science and technology,the world is entering into the "Risk Society" which is put forward by Ulrich Beck.In the risk society,the abrupt public health events are usually the focus and become important issues on media reports.Moreover,they can arouse public concern and form public opinions.On 18 March 2016,THE PAPER reported the Shandong vaccine event,which was a major abrupt public health event involving 24 provinces and cities across the country.Once revealed,the Shandong vaccine event immediately caused the attention of mass media and new media.This study uses the Shandong vaccine event revealed on March 18,2016 as the research object.Through the application of content analysis and discourse analysis,this research compares the reporting frame construction between newspaper samples and Weibo samples in order to explore the similarities and differences of reporting frame construction between the newspaper and Weibo in Shandong vaccine event.Emphatically,this paper analyzes the strategies,results and causes of the reporting frame construction.This study finds that newspaper tends to release the facts and scientifically explain the information about vaccine in government’s position,while Weibo tends to spread news and a majority of the contents question or condemn the event in the public position.In the newspaper samples,the frame of party newspaper and metro newspaper are quite similar.Both of them reported the event in government’s position.Generally,the phenomenon of similarity is very serious in newspaper reports.The frame of Weibo belongs to the multiple discourse frame.Media Weibo and elite Weibo have strong power,and the official Weibo of government tends to be silent on the event.Most media on Weibo publish both positive and negative reports,which is an extension of the mass media.Elite Weibo develops questioning spirit,and a majority of them question or condemn the event.Overall,the newspaper frame and Weibo frame are opposite to each other,including the positive and negative opposing frame,the objective and subjective opposing frame,the implicit and explicit opposing frame.
