Resource Usage Characterizing And Optimizing For Mobile Web Browsing

With the present wild use of mobile devices,in the course of web browsing,more and more people are in favor of using smart phone to surf the Internet.Because of the gap between the mobile terminal and the traditional PC terminal,it is necessary for content provider to optimize the mobile sites if you want to provide a good user experience for mobile users.Not all of the sites on the mobile terminal for the adaptation and optimization,and the optimization of the site can’t be quantified.For some optimized sites,the developer can’t determine the sites performance is satisfactory with the mobile terminal severe resource constraints or not.Thus it is very significant to search the performance of the mobile web browsing.This paper through the analysis of the whole process of the mobile web browsing explores the resources of the mobile web browsing in time,bandwidth and energy efficiency.Based on the three characteristics,a framework is proposed to evaluate the performance of mobile web site which based on time delay when mobile terminal to access the site,transmission bandwidth consumed by a web document,as well as the power consumed.Based on the framework of resource measurement,this paper realizes the resource characteristic testing system WebExplorer on mobile web browsing,and the system is composed of client side built by Android and server side by Nginx.With the aid of the analysis and measurement of resource characteristics,the performance indicators and resource usage of the website can be directly reflected,which makes performance of mobile station able to measured and quantified.With this framework,we assess resources usage in three different perspectives:website content,applications to access website and transfer protocol.Measurement results play a positive role in promoting mobile web browsing in lower latency and compression bandwidth,reduce energy consumption to verify the important of assessment and the efficiency of framework.Finally,through the analysis of the performance of mobile web browsing in the framework,the paper puts forward the optimization and suggestions for the use of resources in the mobile web browsing.
