With the rapid development of Internet and communication technology,the production,storage,transmission,and modification of digital multimedia is quite convenient.Also they play a more and more important role in our daily life,following a variety of information security issues.As an important branch of data hiding,the technology of reversible data hiding can not only ensure the complete extraction of secret information of the receiver,but also restore the original images without loss at the same time,thus attracts the attention of researchers all over the world.Nowadays,the reversible data hiding,as a mature technology,has numerous significant and effective algorithms.Based on the traditional data hiding technology,we take adpative selection in difference direction and double forecast difference to raise the embedding capacity while the quality of images is maintained.The main work of the paper are as follows:(1)Summarize and analyze some state-of-the-art data hiding methods based on differential histogram shifting.The embedding capacity of the method is in direct proportion to the peak value of the differential histogram,the greater the peak value,the higher the embedding capacity.The distributions of the pixel values are very different in different images or in different aspects of an image.It is probably not able to reach the maximum peak value of digital images when the direction is calculated with a fixed difference.To address this problem,we take self-adpative method with several difference types to select optimally differential direction for different regions.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method performs favorably against with three state-of-the-art methods in embedding capacity,peak signal noise ratio and algorithmically complex.(2)Summarize and analyze some state-of-the-art methods based on prediction difference.The research of reversible data hiding algorithm based on prediction difference is mainly focused on single prediction difference and multi-directions.For digital images,single prediction method can not reach maximun precision at some regions.To address this problem,in this paper,we propose a reversible data hiding method based on double prediction difference.Two kinds of prediction methods are adopted for the same pixel and the prediction difference with high precision is selected for secret information embedding.Meanwhile,according to the relationship between the two prediction differences,the degree of modification of those pixels which are not used for data hiding can be reduced.The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the traditional methods in embedding capacity and image quality.
