Research On The Text Visualization Design Of The Poetryactivities Of Dream Of Red Chamber

The original novel of the "dream of the red chamber" has more than seven hundred and thirty thousand words.Its voluminous content,long life span,numerous characters and obscure languages make it hard for those readers who lack basic knowledge of ancient Chinese and are used to the fragmented readings.And the current auxiliary reading are mostly staying in the data tables and the planar maps.So in this paper,the text visualization technology is applied to the auxiliary reading of the "dream of the red chamber" to help the readers to strengthen their memory and the comprehension on the plots of the "dream of the red chamber",which will help to improve the reading efficiency and reduce the reading difficulty.In this paper,first of all,the text visualization and the poetry activities in the "dream of the red chamber" has been carried on the theoretical research.And then an analysis on the demanding of the visualization has been performed towards users.Finally,the text visualization towards the poetry activities has been designed and practiced.Combining with the original text of the "dream of the red chamber",the original schedule,character relational tables,maps and other multiple data sources,it carries out the visualization on the sequence characteristics,the geographic route,the character relationships and the organization forms of the poetry activities in the "dream of the red chamber" based on the time,place,character and plot these four event elements.Meanwhile,it has achieved the selection and comparison of different data,the zooming and moving of the maps of the poetry activities,the folding and deploying of the circular partition and other interact functions.Combining with the interaction design of the user interfaces,poetry activities are presented in a more intuitive and specific way to help readers quickly clarify the contents related to the poetry activities and to enable readers to read the poetry activities sections more efficiently in the "dream of the red chamber".Through the variable controlling method,it is designed to judge whether the text visualization design can help readers to clarify the time,place,images,plots and other contents of the poetry activities more efficiently from the speed and the accuracy to answer the target questions.According to the interface usability principle,an interface usability evaluation has been carried out on the visualization design through the heuristic evaluation method to find problems on the each part of the designed parts and to make iterative improvement against the problems found.In conclusion,this paper carries out the text visualization design research onthe poetry activities in the "dream of the chamber".By collecting and sorting the relevant multiple data sources,it shows the temporal distribution,character relationships,the geography routes and the poetry activity organization forms of the poetry activities in the "dream of the red chamber" in visualized forms to help readers efficiently read the poetry activities in the novel.It is indeed a new attempt on the applications of the text visualization technology towards Chinese classical literature.
