| Accompanied by the emergence of the display devices and the establishment of amount of 3D cinemas,it becomes an important research highlight to achieve high-quality naked-eye 3D display.Apart from the holographic 3D display,the light field display has attracted more and more attention,and different kinds of display system based on the light field reconstruction method are proposed with the development of the projection techniques and high-speed computer image-rendering and data-processing.Horizontal-parallax-only(HPO)light field 3D display is an important 3D display method,as it can achieve fairly good 3D-effect performance by compressing the mass data of light rays.As there is no vertical parallax for the horizontal light field,its representability of display definition and the ability of monocular focusing are both different from the ideal light field.Started from the description of plenoptic function and describes the simple way to describe light field in free space.The scanning light field display using high speed projector and rotating directional diffuser screen was proposed in this paper.The fundamental optical principle of this horizontal light field display was introduced in detailTo understand the characteristic of the horizontal light field,its point spread function(PSF)is discussed by analyzing a kind of scanning light field display.Based on the auto focusing principle of the human eye or Single Lens Reflex camera,the monocular focusing ability of the horizontal light field reconstructed under different display system parameters is simulated,and it is concluded that the monocular focusing is influenced by the light ray’ s horizontal diffusing angle and the projection image’ s number per screen spinning circle.The conclusion is verified by the experimental results using a scanning light field display prototype,and the results show that the maximum monocular focusing height declines with increasing the light ray’ s horizontal diffusing angle,and goes up with increasing the projection image’ s number per screen spinning circle.The relevant analyzing method and conclusion can support the designing of the light field display which need the ability of monocular focusing.Finally,conclusions of the paper are made.The potential improvements are discussed and shows a direction of future research on light field display technologies. |
