Wireless Sensor Networks has become one of the most exciting areas of computer science research in recent years. With the emergence of new applications in WSN and the continuous development of IPv6 networks, the communication between WSN and IPv6 networks has become a inevitable trend of future development, and the IPv6 over Low-Power Wireless Personal Area Networks standard makes it become fast. However, the network topology of 6LoWPAN wireless sensor networks is simple and the node resources are limited,so the nodes are facing the problem of life cycle.Routing algorithm is the key technology of 6LoWPAN wireless sensor networks, and the traditional routing algorithm is no suitable to 6LoWPAN,so how to extend the network life cycle has become an important research direction in the development of 6LoWPAN routing algorithms.Firstly, this thesis describes the concept, research background and research status of the 6LoWPAN wireless sensor networks, then introduces the characteristics of the WSN and its application scenarios. After that, the advantages and challenges of 6LoWPAN are introduced. At last, the principle and features of some representative routing algorithms are analyzed. Then,to address the problems existing in extended hierarchical routing algorithms in 6LoWPAN wireless sensor networks(E-HiLow),including redundant control packets exist in the period of chosing parent node, unreasonable choice of the parent node, this paper proposes a load balanced hierarchical routing protocol for 6LoWPAN wireless sensor networks(LB-HiLow).LB-HiLow algorithms propose the optimal parent node selection mechanism, this mechanism ensures the selected parent node more optimal and maintains the network load balancing by reducing control message redundancy and increasing the selection of parameters;and it also proposes the path recovery mechanism, this mechanism makes some descendant nodes of the failed nodes to rejoin the network,so that they would continue to forward data in the transmission process by prejudging the relationship between the failed node and its last hop node.Next,a LOAD routing protocol based on optimal fragmentation for 6LoWPAN wireless sensor networks(OF-LOAD)is proposed to solve the problems that the route cost is too large during route recovery and the energy consumption is too much during data transmission in 6LoWPAN Ad-hoc on-demand distance vector routing protocol(LOAD).OF-LOAD algorithm proposes the optimal fragmentation mechanism, this mechanism reduces the energy consumption generated in the data transmission process and improves the network survival time by the fragmentation strategy for optimizing energy consumption of data packets;Meanwhile,it also proposes a new path recovery mechanism, which makes the upstream node of failed node start the path repair,so that the source node dose not directly reroute the routing path. With the new mechanisms above,OF-LOAD can reduce the route cost and the end-to-end transmission delay. Finally, the main work of this paper is summarized, and the future work of the routing algorithm for 6LoWPAN wireless sensor networks is discussed.
