In the new century, many manufacturing enterprises have changed their manufacturing mode from mass production into multiple species and scalable batch production, especially in the military industrial manufacturing enterprise. As times change, improving production efficiency and rapid response ability to market has become the theme of the new era.Cellular manufacturing differs from mass production mode, which has both high flexibility of single production and high efficiency of mass production. At the same time, cellular manufacturing overcomes high production cost of piece production and large rigidity of mass production. It is suitable for the production with multi-product and small batch characteristics. Cellular manufacturing can simplify management, reduce parts flow, shorten production preparation time, shorten the product manufacturing cycle and improve the productivity and product quality, thus which has been introduced in some enterprises. The implementation of cellular manufacturing system can to some extent alleviate these enterprises to cope with the problem of fast response pressure, but there are still some problems in the implementation process. How to apply cellular manufacturing system in the enterprise with the characteristics of multiple species and batch production is currently missing research point.Based on this, the paper emphasizes on research how to apply cellular manufacturing to multiple species and batch market demand. Cellular manufacturing includes three aspects which are cell formation, cell layout and cell management. A lot of researches separate cell formation from cell layout, namely first construct unit and second make the cell layout. Taking into account that the common goal of the unit construction and cell layout is to enable enterprises to increase efficiency and reduce the cost, the paper studied how to fuse the two aspects. In order to cope with the change of market demand in the batch production, the paper considered the material handle cost in the process of constructing the objective function, put forward the cell availability index, and constructed the basic framework considering multiple stages factors in cell formation. Single phase cell model and multiple stages model were established. In the fourth chapter, the paper proposed an improved Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm(PSO), encoded/decoded the algorithm, realized the mapping relationship between the algorithm and workshop equipment layout. At last the paper designed the solving process based on Improved Particle Swarm Optimization algorithmFinally, combining with the case, the method was applied to a NC workshop in Dongfang factory. The paper analyzed the problems of enterprise workshop, and pointed out that the enterprise was suitable for application of cell manufacturing. Through history production data of multiple stages, the paper programmed the model and method, validated the method and model proposed in this paper. At the same time, through comparative analysis and method application, the final logistics cost of this enterprise reduced greatly. Therefore, the research of this paper has certain guiding significance for some multiple species and batch production enterprises.
