Research On The Measurment Of The Operation Efficiency Of Container Terminals Based On The Stochastic Frontier Analysis Model

The development of shipping industry among domestic and international are in a fast lane at present, the competition of container terminals are extremely hot. It is an urgent problem for each terminal how to improve the operation efficiency.The article is based on the operation efficiency measurement model of domestic and international terminals, production method is selected as default of investment and output, a stochastic frontier analysis model(SFA) is structured by Cobb-Douglas production function.The stochastic frontier production function is estimated by sample data from 34 container terminals among current development status in China. "investment-oriented" is the key factor to measure the production efficiency of container terminals, especially Y terminal. Considering the availability of the data, the system is set up by the effect factors of operation efficiency like from the business scale, management ability, automation efficiency and staff qualification.The operation efficiency is evaluated by the four factors.The business scale is measured by total length of berths, management ability is measured by route number, automation efficiency is measured by production accounting arrest, staff qualification is measure by bachelor digress.The influence on container terminal operation efficiency by the four factors can be valued by descriptive statistical analysis, correlation and regression analysis.The content in this article provide the basic idea for further study in field of operation efficiency. There is also theory and fact in this article which improve terminal company's ability and long term strategy. Countermeasure and suggestion are proposed at the end of the article for Y container terminal, which enhance its competition ability. It is significant for container terminal company.
