Manganese is the most important basic material in our national economy and strategic resources for our country. It is widely applied in every field of social production. At present, electrolytic method is mainly pure manganese mode of production in China.This method belongs to hydrometallurgy craft, and is a typical "three high industry"(highly consuming of energy and resource, highly pollution). With the rapid development of electrolytic manganese industry, environmental pollution problems are prominent day by day, among which the electrolytic manganese residue is particularly outstanding.We could determine the Water soluble manganese and Ammonia nitrogen (get to the highest:34762and7987mg/kg) is main pollutants,453and26times exceed national standard. Based on comprehensive consideration of treatment effect and economy, quicklime was selected for treating agent. The optimum proportion of materials was confirmed as the following:manganese residue:quicklime=8:1. The curing degree of Mn was over99.9%and the removal rate of NH3-N was over67%. The solidified body in the extreme condition had a good stability, environmental safety was very well. Pozzolanic reaction and oxidation in three-phase system may be the curing mechanism of water soluble manganese in the slag, the main product of MnO2, Mn2O3, of Mn3O4and other complex.This paper studied engineering construction and equipment selection for industrial application, in order to make the technology harmless to environment fit to the practical production. We solved the problem that deficiency capability of treatment equipment during the process of large-scale production, and pilot scale test is completed. On this basis, the issues of environmental protection in the process of industrialization have been studied.and a brief analysis for economic and environmental benefits of harmless project had been made. Take a30,000tons in annual output of manganese enterprise for example, implementation of the project can save more than2000million of the residue field of investment and maintenance costs over400million/year, extend the industrial chains. The reduction of manganese sulfate and ammonium sulfate, respectively, of4280tons and2174tons.
