The invention of glass is a longtime story,nobody knows the inventors and the exact creating place,what we know now is that the earliest manmade glass come from ancient Egypt and Euphrates and Tigris,the glass center moved to Europe after 17th century.The Chinese ancient people called the colored glass "liu li",called the transparent glass "boli",the ingredient of ancient glass are lead and barium.In 17th century,English invent lead glass by melting:Leadoxide with glass.Glass is translucent hard material,major ingredient is silicon dioxide,molecular formula is(Na20 +CaO+6Si02),the glass family could be divided into two part according to its major ingredient,oxidizing glass and non-oxidizing glass,there are now hundreds kinds of material that related to glass.There were music instruments made of glass at Persia in 14th century,called "music cup".From 17th century to 19th century,the glass related music instruments were invented one after another.The three key elements that we based on to comment sound:tone,sound intensity,timbre,the sound with different frequency would cause different auditory psychological reaction after it come into our brain by auditory organ.Compare the high-lead glass frequency spectrum with other kinds of glasses,we could find that the noise in frequency spectrum which come from in non-crystal structure or not very tight crystal structure is in high proportion,by comparison,the noise come from high-lead glass is relatively low,the metal-like sound could be heard with auditory pleasing,the reason could be the molecula are in good order with tight structure.So become good sound transfer media.The first set of works made of high-lead glass as sound material,used to find the relationship between area and thickness and tone.The second set of works made of high-lead glass cavity,used to find the relationship between cubage and cavity circumference and sections.Above two sets of works,combined the pleasing sound,gorgeous color,translucence into the product design,make it to be a music instrument.
