Objective: To observe the effect of electro-acupuncture(EA) at Shenshu(BL23), Zusanli(ST 36), Guanyuan(CV 4) and Sanyinjiao(SP 6) on bone mineral density(BMD) and peripheral serum E2, LP and OB-R of ovariectomized rats, and explore the possible mechanism of EA preventing and treating on postmenopausal osteoporosis.Method: Forty female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham operation group(Group A), model group(Group B), medication group(Group C) and EA group(Group D), 10 rats in each. The adipose tissue near the ovaries of rats were removed in Group A, the ovaries of rats were removed in the other three groups. For ovariectomized rats of Group D, EA was applied to Shenshu(BL 23)+Zusanli(ST 36) or Sanyinjiao(SP 6)+Guanyuan(CV 4), respectively for 30 min. The ovariectomized rats of Group C were treated with Alendronate. The treatments were given once a day, ten times a course, continuely nine courses. After the treatment, the BMD were detected by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Peripheral serum E2, LP and OB-R were detected by ELISA method.Results: 1.Compared with Group A, the BMD of rats in Group B is significantly decreased(P<0.05).Compared with Group B, the BMD of rats in Group C and D is significantly increased(P<0.05). But there is no significant difference in the BMD of rats between Group C and D(P>0.05). 2.Compared with Group A, the peripheral serum E2 of rats in Group B is significantly decreased(P<0.05).Compared with Group B, the peripheral serum E2 of rats in Group C and D is significantly increased(P<0.05). But there is no significant difference in the peripheral serum E2 of rats between Group C and D(P>0.05). 3.Compared with Group A, the peripheral serum LP and OB-R of rats in Group B are significantly decreased(P<0.05). Compared with Group B, the peripheral serum LP and OB-R of rats in Group C and D are significantly increased(P<0.05). But there are no significant difference in the peripheral serum LP and OB-R of rats between Group C and D(P>0.05).Conclusions: 1.The electro-acupuncture at Shenshu(BL23), Zusanli(ST 36), Guanyuan(CV 4) and Sanyinjiao(SP 6) was able to slow down the process of bone loss of ovariectomized rats, preventing and treating postmenopausal osteoporosis. 2.The mechanism of electro-acupuncture on postmenopausal osteoporosis may be associate with increased level of peripheral serum E2, LP and OB-R of ovariectomized rats. LP play a role of improving the bone metabolism in peripheral.
