Lower leg muscles play a driven and control role in human's walking, running, jumping and other basic physical activity.Tibialis anterior muscle and gastrocnemius muscle are two relatively large superficial muscles of lower leg muscles, which are responsible for ankle dorsiflexion and ankle flexion. However, the current state assessment of those two muscles is mostly from the functional point and completes by the way of function scales, generally ignore the structural information.Besides, the study of lower leg muscles' are in common with large age span and small quantity of the research objects. In addition, hemiplegia is the most common sequelae of central nervous system injury.Foot drop is a typical symptom of hemiplegic patients, the main reason is the tibialis anterior muscle motor and control function impaired.Electro-acupuncture treatment is often employed to treat foot drop. However, muscle contraction lacks monitoring during the electro-acupuncture treatment, and the choice of electro-acupuncture therapy's stimulus intensity and time are heavily relied on patient's oral feedback and clinicians' experience, leading to poor treatment effect easily. In this respect, this paper analyzes the statistical differences of gender, left and right sides and regular exercise or not among health young subjects, based on tibialis anterior muscle and gastrocnemius muscle of lower leg muscles. And then, this paper explores quantification method of tibialis anterior muscle contraction under electro-acupuncture treatment of the hemiplegia patients. In particular, ultrasound imaging is employed to collect images of tibialis anterior muscle or lateral gastrocnemius muscle in health young subjects, and various types of parameters are extracted. Finally,it is found that tibialis anterior muscle shows more sensitive in gender, right and left sides and regular exercise or not, compared with lateral gastrocnemius muscle. On the research of quantitative analysis of tibialis anterior muscle contraction under electro-acupuncture treatment of the hemiplegia patients, ultrasound images, mechanomyography and inertial data are collected.A total of 10 quantitative indicators are computed from the three kinds of modal data. The experiment results found that there are 6 quantitative indicators are more suitable for exploring skeletal muscle contraction under electro-acupuncture treatment. These 6 quantitative indicators reflect tibialis anterior muscle contraction amplitude is decreased and contraction frequency is increased during electro-acupuncture treatment. This changes can provide preliminary quantitative information and basis for setting the stimulating time of electro-acupuncture treatment. In conclusion, the study on exploring quantitative method of lower leg muscles contraction is divided into two aspects. On the one hand, the statistical differences between tibialis anterior muscle and lateral gastrocnemius muscle in healthy young subjects due to gender, left and right sides and regular exercise or not are analyzed. On the other hand, exploring tibialis anterior muscle contraction under electro-acupuncture treatment of the hemiplegia patients from a variety of angles. It is hoped that the work of this article could help the staff in the field of sports science and rehabilitation to understand more about the tibialis anterior muscle and gastrocnemius muscle.
