Objective:The aim of the study was 1)to examine the prevalence and risk factors associated with sarcopenia in elderly community dwelling people of Beijing,2)To investigate the associations between eldly sarcopenia and 6-minute Walk distance and related geriatric syndrome scale,3)To study the differences in diffrent TCM syndromes of aged sarcopenia patients. Methods:The Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia criteria was applied to investigate the prevalence of sarcopenia in the elderly population of these region. Those without sarcopenia were served as a control group.Questionnaire were collected information included general population information(gender,age,Old-age Provision Model, level of education, etc.),social behavior characteristics(smoking and drinking history, fall history, etc.)and medical history.6 Minutes Walk Test(6MWT)and related geriatric syndrome scale were regularly conducted.Body composition was measured using Bioimpedance analysis(BIA).Other fators included BMI,grip strength, walking speed were also evaluated. The enrolled aged sarcopenia patients were divided into two groups:syndrome of liver-kidney deficiency and syndrome of spleen-stomach deficiency. Results:In the cross-sectional study, the overall prevalence of sarcopenia was 21.5%in these region,11.4%for men and 25.4%for women.34 cases of aged women sarcopenia patients(19 cases of liver-kidney deficiency group,15 cases of spleen-stomach deficiency group)together with 124 cases of non-sarcopenia patients were recruited in the study. After adjusting for various factors,BMI(24.0?27.9kg/m2:OR=0.053,95%CI=0.003?0.910;?28kg/cm2:OR=0.037,95%CI=0.002?0.746),age(80 years?:OR-30.465,95%CI=2.740?338.765),fall history(OR=10.538,95%CI=1.828?30.351)were associated with prevalence of sarcopenia.Severe ADL impaired also has influence with SArcopenia.Between group liver-kidney deficiency and group spleen-stomach deficiency, walking speed has significance(group liver-kidney deficiency 0.91±0.18m/s VS group spleen-stomach deficiency 1.06 ± 0.30m/s,P=0.032).No statistical diffrences were presented in the 6MWT,ADL,RASM,BMIas well as grip strength(P>0.05)of the two TCM groups. Conclusion:Low BMI,malnutrition, old age and fall history are all risk factors in Sarcopenia. The prevalence of eldly Sarcopeia was high in the investigated region,so screening for the aged Sarcopenia patients should be strengthened.
