In the music-flourishing 20 th century,Samuel Barber,an US modernist musician infuenced by both classic European music as well as the modernist one,composed his unique music style combining classic technique with modern technique.The most valuable of his works is that they are heavily characterized with US local music.Barber's music was limited by no mechanism nor pattern, and revealed his own special concept in the wonderful melody. Although music in 20 th cencury can be very controversive, Barber's work seems to be easily accepted by the public.The audience always felt resonance and missed him when listening to his music,which showed his importance in world musical history. He involved in a plenty subject matters, including vocal, instrumental solo, chamber music, and musicals.Althouth taking a lower proportion of all his works, Barber's only 7 piano works reflect his unmatched richness of musical language and profoundness of creative thoughts.This paper is composed of 4 chapters. In chapter 1, Barber's life, his writing stages and writing style were introduced. In chapter 2, the background and structure of his piano suite "Excursions" were analyzed.In chapter 3, the creative writing skills were studied respectively from the folk music elements he used and the unique acoustics. In chaptor 4, my practicing tips and experiences were analyzed and summarized, by which to inspire other players with playing skills and musical understandings.
