Between is a civilization in the middle ages and the Renaissance era in history was considered to be dark and brutal. Because a special socio-cultural environment, resulting in its artistic presentation different from conventional forms. The Renaissance was during the great prosperity of Western European culture and art. The slogan of restoring classical culture was rooted in various fields including literature, drawing sculpture, architecture, music and science.As the pioneer in art in the early renaissance period, Amgiolotto di Bondone Giotto(1226-1336), just like Dante in the history of European literature, he is in turn of two cultural gap in the survival of the great artist. When confronted with formulated and conceptualized drawing-the long standing problem left over from the middle ages, he did not completely overthrow or subvert. In fact, he developed the good while discarding the bad; he looked for heritage while standing at an opposite position. The result was that Classical Art which had disappeared for almost a century was brought back to the public attention-the new style of renaissance emerged.The paper is focused on interpreting how Giotto's art lift developed through four prominent phases. The analysis of Gitotto life experiences and master work of each phase combined with the discussion of middle age's Byzantine Art and Gothic Art will thoroughly explain how Giotto broke the bondages of the art of middle age and brought hope to European art during the dark period. On this basis a detailed account of its painting, form and content of, concluded by Giotto painting of artistic value and its inspiration on contemporary art. By analyzing Giotto, we will realize that his philosophy and spirit have profound impact in art history, and any generation will benefit a lot by just studying Giotto.
