On Gender Discrimination In Russian Language

Language, as the carrier of culture, reflects almost all aspects of society. Along with the development of feminism, sexism in language has received widespread attention in the recent thirty years. Feminists castigate it mercilessly and linguists try to explore the phenomenon of sexism in language from such aspects as word labelling, sentence order and lexical meaning. Then, people begin to be aware of its negative effects on language and further illustrate that only if sexism in language is eliminated, can a harmonious atmosphere of language and society be built, gender equity be better promoted.This thesis reviews the study situation of sexism in language and summarizes several concepts related to it. Taking Russian as the study object, the author tries to explore the deep cause of sexism in Russian through the study of sexism in daily expression and the mass media. In view of this, some corresponding measures are also put forward in this thesis. The study of sexism in Russian can not only uncover its rich social-cultural connotations, but also contribute a lot to the exchanges and communication between different nations. Hopefully, this study can enrich the research of sexism in Russian and provides references for comparative study in this field.
