A Philosophical Interpretation Of The Certainty Of Modern Individual Survival In The Spatial Turn

Human beings are the existence of certainty in the social space.Throughout the history of human society, we always get accustomed to using a time dimension to examine the evolution of human development and historical process while often ignoring the spatial dimensions.Since the 19th and 20th century, however,the space has come into the vision of human life and social development,thus providing a new field for the dimensions of human existence. As Gordon said,in this point, the development of capitalism and the expansion of the economy are fundamentally the problems in the space.And by criticizing and revealing the social space of capitalism, Marx found that people have been "alienated".In the contemporary world, with the continuous compression of space and the rapid development of globalization,a kind of profound "spatial orientation" hiding from this situation has emerged.Then individuals,cities and countries all compete for their positions in the space so as to seek new opportunities to develop and paths of surviving.On the other hand, people exist or live for the purpose of achieving self-affirmation and gaining a identity.In the present social space,although the material living standard of individuals has been significantly improved,the spiritual life is relatively poorer. In this point,as is vividly depicted in a cartoon, it can be observed that the material and spirit are people's legs, the left leg round and fat, the right as thin as a lath. In fact, the optional scope of individuals'life is infinitely expanding in modern times,but the spiritual life is far behind in material life, which eventually leads to the individuals indulging in pleasure and being lonely and hopeless in some silent cabin.Additionally,in the space of modern society, which is called "such a civilization", people's personality has been more free to play, and everything seems to proceed towards a better direction.However, can modern people really feel happiness and joy? Why do more and more people lose their sense of reason, beginning to complain, worry, and even become savage?Everyone is at ease, but he doesn't feel his presence.What's worse,there are even some people who regard giving up their lives as a proof of self-affirmation.And this is the new tragedy of the modern people in a civilized society.What's more,human existence, value orientation and the pursuit of dreams are related to the existence of certainty.With the development of globalization and the constant breakthroughs of science and technology,human beings can reach any surface of the earth, and so that human beings feel that they are no longer some small individuals in the vast universe and can be proud to say they are living in the "global village".But new problems have appeared,and people are faced with a kind of "crisis of human beings.Then we have a new living space,new machines,new factories,new technologies,new buildings,and also have new confusion.For instance,in the context of market economy, material things and society are profoundly thriving. However, the spirit and heart are in trouble. Moreover,the social living space comes into a hollow container. And "the Utopia society" that people yearn for is full of violence, so that "global village" is facing the crisis of security, justice and so on. Finally, based on these aspects above, this thesis attempts to make a philosophical interpretation and analysis of the social situation in order to provide a guide for the pursuit of people'spiritual value. Furthermore,the thesis aims to provide a kind of value orientation and self-examination for the human beings in all kinds of space.
