It is already 20 years since the Bao Shan Site was excavated and known to people, but there is still a lack of research. This article is the first to focus on the craft of the Shang dynasty potteries excavated in Bao Shan Site, with a comparative analysis to other related cultures, and used a variety of technical methods for the measuring and analysis of materials, this may reveal some new knowledge to us.The first chapter is about the purpose, research approach and the introduction to the basic research materials of the findings of the Bao Shan Site.The second chapter is about the craft of the Shang dynasty potteries excavated in Bao Shan Site. The potteries are classified into 6 categories by its shape, including high-handle vessels, ring foot vessels, flat base vessels, round base vessels, tripod vessels, and other shapes:the analysis will be based on each shape, to discuss its various aspects; also, with an analysis on its trace of making, to discover its original crafting procedure, and summarizes 5 principle features of the craft.The third chapter is the analysis and discussions of some main issues, including the organization of making of pottery, and the relation with other archaeological cultures near Bao Shan. With the XRF analysis, the pottery was made local, and this location is the main source of pottery of Bao Shan culture; in the phase ?-? of Bao Shan culture, the pottery are standardized, while in phase IV, with the introduction of nearby cultures, the shape become more varied. With the comparison of craft, Bao Shan has inherited the craft technics of Lu Jiahe Phase ? culture, with a mix of technics from Lao Niupo Culture and Yi Jiabao Shang Dynasty culture, and has influenced the craft in Shierqiao Culture and Gong Yuguo Culture.The fourth chapter is a summary of main points of the article, and some flaws of the research to be perfected.
