A Study Of Japanese Language Attitudes Of College Students In Xi'an Area

Language attitude is an important subject of social linguistics perspective, it belongs to the social psychology of language, Through the study of it, it could explain in linguistics what can't be explained in the view of the many other problems, understanding a nation, a group, and individual psychological characteristics of language, it is the concept of people's language, language ability and language behavior have a profound influence.It comes form people's social life, and deeply affects the way how people using language, language identity, language ability, and even national identity,even involves the communication of different language and ethnic relations. There are many factors that can affect language attitude, such as nationality, age, gender, level of education, national policy and historical factors, etc, they are both as independent variables, effects on language attitude?Xi'an as a historic city, it is in contact with Japan form the Western Han dynasty period, the period of the tang dynasty to most closely. Although xi'an and Japan has a deep history of contacts, but Xi'An people's attitudes towards Japan and Japanese are different. Each independent variable is the reason of it. It as the main research content of this paper, through the way of questionnaire, the investigation and study, interview, comparison and other methods, through the SPSS17.0 to investigate Xi'an college students' attitude to Japanese.This article mainly solve the following questions:(1) What's the Xi'an college students' attitude to Japanese?(2) Each independent variable, like gender, professional, origin region, language policy, foreign relations, factors of parents can affect language attitude?(3) What are the difference attitude toward between Japanese and Mandarin, English and Korean?(4) What are the Xi'an college students attitude toward of Japanese in different period? What are the causes of the different attitudes?(5)What are the Xi'an college students attitude toward of Japanese landscape mark? How these attitudes reflect their language attitudes?In this paper, the main founds are the followings:(1) Xi'an college students' attitude to Japanese is negative.(2) Gender, major, origin region, language policy, foreign relations, parents factors, family environment, whether like Japan or not, whether contact with Japanese or not,these nine aspects are the main factors affecting college students'language attitude. Among them, the major foreign policy, origin region, language, whether like Japanese and contact Japanese or not,and the degree contact with Japan are the main factors acting on language attitude. (3) The Xi'an college students'attitude to mandarin is most friendly, the second is English, the third is Korean, finally is Japanese. Investigating the reasons, there are the following several aspects:First of all, mandarin as the official language in China, it has the highest level of recognition. Secondly, as the world's most widely used language, our country also makes it as the first foreign language,the result of it is the identity to English is high. Thirdly, in recent years,because of a large invasion of Korean culture, the student's identity to the Korean also gradually improves. Fourth, the relations between China and Japan and Japanese practical value limit the spread of the Japanese in China, it makes people's attitude to Japanese language is negative.(4) Nineties of xi'an college students compared with now, attitude to Japanese is more negativity, the reason is that:the level of reform and opening up, the level of open mind, the acceptance and receiving areas of new things, historical cognition, national policy, education quality in six different aspects. In addition, the attitude of the college students in two periods are different.(5) From the college students'attitude towards Japanese language landscape,the functional evaluation of Japanese is low.This result and the direct survey set off each other, both of them can illustrate that the xi'an college students to Japanese language attitude is negative.
