Analysis And Presentation Of Dynamic Characteristics Of Black Dai Dance In Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province

Black Dai,also known as “Dai Lang”,“Dai Dan” and “Shan Dai”,is one of the branches of the Dai Ethnic Minority Group.Why it is called “Black Dai” is that its people love the color of black and always wear clothes in black.Mainly distributed in Wenshan Prefecture,Yunnan Province,the branche still adopts farming practices,and holds on to the oldest primitive worship.Just as a Chinese saying goes,“ the unique features of a local environment always give special characteristics to its inhabitants”.Although it could as well be designated as part of the Dai Ethnic Minority Group,the Black Dai branch formed its unique aesthetic orientation and dance movements under the influence of the geographical environment,social life,traditions and customs.The author carried out field studies in places where the Black Dai lived,recored the form and content of their dancing performances and analyzed the dynamic motion characteristics of the dance.The author concluded that the dance of the Black Dai people is posessed of the dynamic features of “standing steadily with one’s hip twisting and hands open,moving elegantly with head,chest and hip forming three curves on the body,leaning forward one’s chest or relying on one’s back with both hands being raised,back straightened and head held up”.The autor also came to a conclusion with regard to the manner and ryhme of the Black Dai dance of “being simple and natural,streched and vivid,leisureful and graceful,as well as flexible and tenacious”,and the national temperament of “being soft inside and tough in the appearance,and being gritty,persistent and self-confident ”.This paper elaborates from three aspects: first,the basic situation of the Black Dai would be briefly described.Sec ond,the dynamic characteristics and style of the Black Dai dance would be sorte d out and refined.Third,the article would firmly grasp the dynamic characteristic s of the dance branch to shape the national character.through “ Woman of Shan Dai ”,finally expecting its positive role in protecting and broadcasting the dance b ranch in terms of language and gesture.The hope is that more people can understand Black Dai and see or appreciate the Black Dai dance.
