On the literary writing of plants in Lingnan is a sort of literary and cultural studies on plants. This paper consists of eight chapters. The first two chapters are a genernal survey, which analyzes the concept, the natural environment and plant resources of Lingnan; what is more, it gives a brief review for the literary writing of plants in Lingnan that is divided into four stages, namely, the period of germination,development, prosperity and new change by the historical and cultural background.The later six chapters, a case study of the seven characteristic plants in Lingnan whose name is litchi, betal, banyan, bombax, jasmine, and hibiscus, are the main part of the paper.The chapter three mainly discusses the following problems. First is the creation background of "litchi Fu"??? by Wang Yi ??.Second is the relationship between Lingnan litchi and the writing model satirized by it or the aesthetic culture in Tang Dynasty. Third is the mentality of relegation showed by Su Shi ?? who was a major role of litchi writing. Finally analysing the resource of "Litchi Register Books”??? and "Litchi Song"???,it argues the issue that which litchi is delicious debated from Song Dynasty to Qing Dynasty by Cantonese and Hokkien; in fact the essence of this controversy reflects a difference of the regional academic culture.The chapter four, Concentrating on chewing betal culture, argues the following problem. First on account of emphasizing the medicinal value of betal by Taoists and meeting with the demeanor of WeiJin, chewing betal was so popular in the Northern and Southern Dynasties. At that time, betal writing is a reflection of this social phenomenon. After the Tang and Song Dynasties with the unification of North and South, the decline of the aristocracy, scholars in Jiangnan area was no longer chewing betal. Therefore betal writing is with a strong Yi Xia distinction and different experience.The chapter five selects three image of the banyan from the perspective of exile,exploring the opening and development of literary writing of the banyan, and the relationship between banyan writing and the spirit of Confucianism and Taoism. The method to think banyan from the perspective of Confucianism and Taoism not only is a basic model of writing but also have a profound influence and cultural significance in the history of banyan.The chapter six discusses how Bombax become a symbol of Lingnan and its culture . From Bombax Song,the writing of bombax in front of Nanhai temple ????,"the Drawing of Bombax in Green Mountain"????? and its inscriptions, it demonstrates three issues: the first is to create a heroic images of bombax, and then to ascend the throne of South flower, final to become the representative and symbol of Lingnan culture.The chapter seven relates when did Jasmine come into China and what is their other name? it also discusses the relationship between jasmine and the literary writing from the point of history and commerce, such as a unique nostalgia imagination of jasmine writing, the story of Southern Han beauty Suxin, and so on.The chapter eight is to present the history of hibiscus flowers that is the plant of Lingnan as literature subject matter and image. First of all, the author figured out the relationship between its varied names and literature. Secondly hibiscus flowers was found for aesthetic by man of letters from Han dynasties to Jin dynasties. Finally the meaning of Hibiscus flowers was created in scholars' writings of Tang and Song dynasties. Hibiscus flowers open evening falls, but it has flowers the whole year. Two characteristics of it pose a huge contrast, and form a great literary tension, which is the biggest charm of it as the theme and image.
