The relationship between economic costs and morality is an important issue both for business ethical study and for moral practice in economic field. The influence of morality on economic cost not only has the characteristics of long-term, implicitness and dynamics, but also has the characteristics of positive and negative correlation. As a result, as an important issue which needs to be further studied both in theory and practice,it is necessary to present a comprehensive explanation of the relationship between economic cost and morality and to construct a coordination mechanism of economic cost and morality so as to improve the harmonious development of social economy.This thesis consists of six parts.Part one analyzes the background and significance of the paper; summarizes the research status at home and abroad; briefly illustrates the research contents, research methods and innovations of this paper.Part two briefly states the meaning of economic cost and morality and also summarizes major theoretical types of relationship between economic cost and morality. This part mainly clarifies and defines the central concepts of economic cost and morality and makes a comprehensive analysis of three types of relationship between economic costs and morality,which are non-moral-theory, burden-theory, and positive-theory.Part three illustrates the relationship between traction cost and morality. The author mainly summarizes the connotation of traction cost and analyses the positive and negative correlation between traction cost and morality.Part four illustrates the relationship between opportunity cost and morality. The author mainly summarizes the historical procedure of the concept of opportunity cost and analyses the positive and negative correlation between opportunity cost and morality.Part five illustrates the relationship between sunk cost and morality. The author defines the concept of sunk cost and then analyses the positive and negative correlation between sunk cost and morality.Part six constructs a coordinating mechanism between economic cost and morality. The author present and argues for specific coordinating mechanisms in order to build a healthy relationship between morality and the specific forms of economic costs, which are traction cost, opportunity cost and sunk cost.
