Zhang Tao, who is a famous opera artists and poem in early Qing Dynasty, lives in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province. His writings modeled Xu Wei's Sishengyuan. His works reflect his real thoughts. Because of his profound achievements in Opera art, he leads an important role in writing short drama.The paper has three chapters.Chapter one lies in Zhang Tao's background, his family, his work experience, his friends and so on. Through the research of his life, this chapter mainly narrates how Zhang Tao's early life experience influences his works creation in opera and at the same time chapter one leads in rectifying the error information about Zhang Tao's life.Chapter two is the key point of the paper. Section one mostly describes how the historical background, drama creation and Zhang Tao's life experience impact on his opera creation in his opera theme, thought and emotion. Zhang Tao expresses his thoughts and his emotion on the character of his opera. He prefers to portray a lonely figure, who is failed or not skilled in communicating with other bigwigs in the official circles in Ancient China. He usually releases the characters of his story speak for himself, which means he sees their frustration as his own emotional sustenance. By this way of description, he wants to shape the main theme of the whole plot of the opera. From the art system, Xusishengyuan is a kind of typical literati drama, which means it is not focus on the living spot demonstration, or focus on the plot and role.So the book has many differences in rhyme, and it is not strictly abides by the music Qupai lyrics specification. From the point of view of theme, Xusishengyuan and other of Zhang Tao's books all are on the basic of the feelings fit himself in his generation.That's to say, his writing is based on his own life and psychology.The third chapter of the paper narrates the significance of Zhang Tao's Xusishengyuan in drama history. On the one hand, Xusishengyuan is the bridge of Xu Wei's Sishengyuan and Gui Fu's Housishengyuan. The three books together constitute the history of the ancient drama of the Sishengyuan series. So Zhang Tao's Xusishenguan plays an important part of the series. On the other hand,Xusishengyuan is a book that inherits and carries forward the poetic drama of heart since the late Ming Dynasty and it is a book inherits the ancient China's poem expressing ideal and writing for discontentment.
