Korea is a country with a unique political ideology. Its special political and historical background makes its citizens pay much attention to its political events and participate in the political life more actively and enthusiastically than the citizens of any other country in the world. In October 24,2016,an exposure about the event concerning South Korean President Park Geun-hye's close confidante's intervening with political affairs brought a shock to the world politics and triggered a global concern. This event can be considered as the hottest-debated national event on the world in 2016.After the report of the event,a series of other political events happened during Park Geun-hye's time in office were investigated and the truth was revealed in front of the public, including the shipwreck of the passenger ship-“SEWOL”,Park's injection beauty needles, and the event about Choi's vetting Park's speeches to interrupt political issues. In this period, the millions of South Korean people demanded Park Geun-hye to take responsibility and step down by the means of Assembly and demonstration. The public play a crucial role in this event. The South Korean people's 6 large-scale demonstrations promoted the impeachment against President Park Geun-hye from the South Korean parliament in December 9th.Park Geun-hye also became the second president who stepped down by impeachment when still in office in South Korean history after the former president Roh Moo-hyun.The exposure of such a major political scandal and the degree of public intervention in democracy can be said to be unprecedented in other countries. In retrospect, most Korean people not only once resisted against the colonization of Japan but also resist for democracy and basic rights of citizens. The resistance of the public people is an important factor in promoting the process of democratization in South Korea.Until today, large scale public demonstrations still can be seen in South Korea. This kind of nationality and the public's persistent pursuit of democracy are effectively reflected in the film culture. The film s created according to the Korea real political events have appeared for a long time in South Korea, and the real political events entered the South Korean director's horizon gradually because of its extensive social foundation, highly public concern, and their importance, specialty, uniqueness and drama after the classification system was promulgated in the South Korean film system. At the beginning of 21 st Century, the films made based on the real political events repeatedly created viewing records in the film history of South Korea and triggered a strong response in the society. These films encouraged the reflection and criticism of the public on these events.Countless mistrials were reversed and the truth was exposed.Among these films, the story of the late former South Korean president was also used. Most of these films were adapted basing on the major political events in South Korea. These events owned great social audience, therefore the impact and reflection brought by the films is great, which is unmatched by other forms of art.In recent years, many films of this kind gained both profit and reputation and had a great share in South Korean film market. Thus these films became the study object of many scholars. This thesis mainly takes Silmido,May 18,The Attorney,Nan Ying Hole 1985 and Broken Arrow as the study object. It restores the real political events behind each film by searching and reading large amounts of research literature at home and abroad and the Korean first-hand information. It aims to make a thorough analysis of the main reasons that promote the democratization process of South Korea, and probe into the relationship between the real political events and the political event films as well as the flowering of these films in South Korea and the role they played in the South Korea film system by exploring the intrinsic link between different stages of democratization in South Korea reflected by the five films.
