A Study Of The Literati Group In Shanxi At The End Of The Jin Dynasty

This thesis aims at exploring the Shanxi literati group in the period of the late Jin Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty.It consists of four chapters.In the first chapter we study the social background in the rise of Shanxi literati group in the late Jin Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty.In the first part,some important concepts will be defined,such as late Jin Dynasty,Shanxi,literati group.In the second part,we mainly discuss the alteration of Shanxi Region's historical role from late Western-Jin Dynasty to late Jin Dynasty,and the historical and regional background of Shanxi literati group.In the third part,we study the social and cultural environment in late Jin Dynasty,and its influence of the environment in Shanxi Region.And on this basis we discuss the general psychological state of literati in Shanxi.In the fourth part,we discuss the Imperial examination in late Jin dynasty and its influence to Shanxi literati group.The second chapter is about the social and cultural situation in late Jin Dynasty,and the living conditions and psychological states of Shanxi literati.And it's necessary to define some related concepts such as the early Yuan Dynasty,Shanxi Region in this period.We will discuss the alteration of the historical position of Shanxi Region in early Yuan Dynasty,and the policies which the Yuan government implemented in Shanxi Region and its influence to Shanxi literati group.The third chapter is about the activities of Shanxi literati group in late Jin Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty.This chapter consists of three parts.In the first part,we will discuss the process of formation and development of this literati group.Then we will study their activities and achievement in literary and other academic fields.The fourth chapter is about the position of Shanxi literati group in late Jin Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty in literary history.Literature of Jin Dynasty developed from drawing experience from the Song Dynasty and then seeking its own characteristics to coming back to the mainstream trend of ancient Chinese literature.In the first part,we will discuss the role of Shanxi literati group in this process.In the second part,we try to uncover how Shanxi literati group participates into the process of the mingling of northern literature and southern literature as the representatives of the former in early Yuan Dynasty,and how Shanxi literati group affected the appearances of the literature in early Yuan Dynasty.
