Shyness, social indifference, and social avoidance are the three subtypes of social withdrawal. They have a negative impact on the development of individuals, and the risk of social avoidance is the highest. Most studies use the perspective of contextual development to explain the adaptation and development of different subtypes of social withdrawal groups from different levels of contextual factors.Few studies have investigated the social information processing processes of different subtypes of social withdrawal groups and their role in psychological adaptation and development. However, from the perspective of the etiology of clinical research, systemic cognitive bias plays a central role in the development and maintenance of individual social maladaptation. Therefore, the present study focuses on the cognitive mechanism of social withdrawal subtypes and its role in psychological adaptation. In this study, social preference scale(SPS)and shy scale(RCBS)were used to screen out 315 social withdrawal subtypes from 845 subjects from two universities in Shanghai.Participants completed the UCLA Loneliness Scale(UCLA);the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI);Satisfaction with Life Scale(SWLS);the Social Interaction Anxiety Scale(SIAS);the Social Phobia Scale(SPS);Positive and Negative Emotion Scale(PNAS).232 participants(125 females, mean age 18.64 years,SD=0.91)who participated in the follow-up experiment completed the Dot-Probe Paradigm,Words and Sentences Association Paradigm(WSAP),and Ambiguous Situation Questionnaire(ASQ)in turn. The results show:1)The results from Dot-Probe Paradigm:(1)Compare to unsociability and shy group,non-withdrawal group had a significantly greater attention tendency to threaten faces in the 500ms;whereas in 1500 ms,it was only significantly higher than the social avoidance group;(2)Girls had higher score in the 500 ms attention bias and 1500 ms attention orientation than boys;while girls had lower score in the 1500 ms difficulty in disengsging.(3)500ms threat attention bias has mediating effect between social isolation and social anxiety, social phobia, accounting for 7.43% and 6.73% respectively.2)The results from WSAP:In the social situation:(1)Gender difference: In accepting positive association, shy group boys' frequency was lower than unsociability group, while shy girls was less than non-withdrawal group; In accepting threaten association, boys' frequency was higher than non-withdrawal groups;(2)The results of group difference: the social avoidance group's threaten association accepting frequency was significantly higher than non-withdrawal groups,The frequency of rejection of threat associations by shy groups and social avoidance groups was significantly less than that of non-withdrawal groups, what's more, unsociability group were significantly higher than the social avoidance group;(3)Mediation effects: threaten interpretation biased had a mediation effect in shyness and social phobia, negative emotions, accounting for 6.43%,5.65%;and also mediate the social isolation and social phobia, negative emotions, accounting for 7.63% and 9.26%,respectively.In non-social contexts: 1 In accepting threat associations, the frequency of social avoidance groups was significantly higher than that of unsociability group and non-social withdrawal group, while in the acceptance of positive sentence association,non-social withdrawal group was significantly more than unsociability group.3)The results from ASQ:(1)Threatening interpretation scores of shy group and social avoidance group were significantly higher than non-withdrawal group;(2)Threaten explanation score of boys were significantly higher than girls;(3)Threaten explanation points of social situation Significantly higher than non-social situations;(4)Boys social threat interpretation score are significantly higher than girls.Social threat interpretation scores have mediating effects on social isolation and loneliness, depression, life satisfaction, and social anxiety. The mediating effects accounted for 6.56%,7.12%,19.6%,and 8.36%,respectively.4)Relevance and gender differences of each adaptation variable:(1)Shyness,social isolation and loneliness, depression, social anxiety, social fear, negative emotion were significantly positively correlated, negatively correlated with life satisfaction, positive emotion, and social Isolation was also significantly negatively correlated with the 500 ms threat attention bias, threat interpretation bias, and social threat interpretation scores;(2)Unsociability and social avoidance were significantly negatively correlated with positive emotions.(3)Boys' social isolation, social threat interpretation, loneliness and depression scores were significantly higher than girls, while negative emotion scores were significantly higher than girls. Conclusion: The social withdrawal of different subtypes presents an overall avoidance approach in the threatening attention bias. When in time-delay situation, the social avoidance group is still in an avoidance state. For interpretation bias, the overall scores for the social avoidance group and the shy group were higher than unsociability group and non-withdrawal group, and the boys scored higher than the girls.Whether it is attention bias or interpretation bias, there are mediating effects on certain subtypes and psychological adaptations of social withdrawal.
