This dissertation is focused on cosmopolitan conception held by Philo Judaeus of Alexandria,it explores the city background of Jews in Alexandria during the first century AD,and argues the fact how Moses and Plato became the outstanding models of a cosmopolitan.In Philo's case,this paper lists the arguments mainly from Philo's various works,since he was highly immersed as a Cosmopolitan,for his view of being a cosmopolitan it was also entirely reflected in his behavior of leading the Jewish embassy to the hostile Gaius.The article is divided into three chapters: the first chapter briefly introduces the social life of the Jews in Alexandria and the source from the antiquity of cosmopolitanism before Philo Judaeus.The second chapter is the core part of the whole paper,which analyzes a conception of Philo's cosmopolitan through his various works,and,by the behavior of Moses and Plato,presents a methodology that putting the cosmopolitan idea into action.The third chapter evaluates Philo's theory in the politic realities,and points out the limitation of his cosmopolitan idea in the antiquity.There is no doubt that Philo's cosmopolitanism idea was theoretically combined in the eastern-western culture.His cosmopolitan idea deeply absorbed Greek philosophy into his Jewish religion,and subtly lays a foundation of Christian doctrine soon after.
