As the superpower in the world,in order to maintain its status in the world system, the United States of America must intervene in regional affairs.Because of the strategic and economic importance of East Asia,U.S.intervention in East Asia is the choice made under the previous logic. The East Asian financial crisis and the issue of South China Sea are just cases in point.Despite many differences, the U.S.intervention in these two cases is driven by similar reasons. And there are also some similarities in terms of the intervention tactics and its outcome. The U.S.intervenes in the two cases because it wants to strengthen its presence, influence and preponderance in East Asia. From the perspective of tactics, although the U.S.adopted more methods to intervene in the South China Sea issue, there are still some common characteristics. The U.S.does get some advantages from its intervention. However,American intervention is mainly driven by its own interests, because there are some differences between the interests of American and that of other countries,American intervention might damage other countries' interests. And American intervention would backfire because of this interests mismatch.
