In the history of human development, education has always been living in a very important position: education culture, spreading civilization and promoting the advance of social productivity, which in turn promotes the further development of education.As used to be the most powerful country in the world, development has to do with education and promoting in the UK. Britain’s education began in Roman times,the nobility and elite education, then with the growth of Christianity, education through the dissemination of the Church, gradually moving towards the public. Taught from the early religious culture slowly expanded to Aristotle’s philosophy of the middle ages. With the development of the industrial revolution, British education education and vocational education division of classical education is becoming mainstream, and has been deeply influenced by 19th century.19th century Britain, due to the accumulated over the years, was at the peak of its historical development. But on the other hand, emerging in continental Europe and the United States and other capitalist countries, have not stopped the British chased the pace. In this environment, the 19th century British education, educational views and ideas colliding, constitute a rare British educational history "contention" scene. The most important school in addition to classical education, other key ideas such as the utility and scientific education.In this one, Huxley as supporters of Darwin’s theory of evolution and a renowned biologist, but also because of its opposition to classical education, and vigorously promote science education, and become a major player in these debates, and to be recognized as a representative figure of the 19th century British science education, the debate between Huxley and Arnold, is the pinnacle of classical education and the science education debate.However, science education thought Huxley thought characteristic of, but not all,Huxley thought of education is a liberal education. In Huxley’s liberal education,science education and humanities education, arts education, and together constitute the three pillars of Huxley’s liberal education. Science education is Huxley’s liberal education and the biggest difference between classical education, which was used and briefly summarize Huxley’s liberal education. However, science education is not free in all educational, cannot be found to occupy the largest share of liberal education,science education and humanities education simultaneously, is the true meaning of liberal education.Classical education in the 19th century is dominated by the British, Huxley’s liberal education was revolutionary and advanced. Also, due to time limitations, class and philosophical limits, Huxley’s educational ideology inevitably has some drawbacks.However, comprehensive assessment, as a biologist, and Huxley supports science education, and all their efforts for the advancement of science education,while Huxley not only promoting scientific education, and all also support humane education, and developed into a liberal education.Huxley was not only an educational theorist,and actively engaged in education-related activities, and practice of liberal education in the practice of philosophy, has made significant contributions to 19th century British educational reform. Study on educational thought of China’s modern education system also has a very good reference value.
